MARMION HOSTS HOMECOMING KICK-OFF BONFIRE!By: Paloma Lopez
THE MARMION BONFIRE is a tradition hosted by Rosary High School’s brother school, Marmion Academy and earned its spot as a beloved highlight in kicking off Homecoming Week. Marmion and Rosary students joined together on Saturday, September 24th to celebrate the exciting week ahead with a fieldshow headlined by the Marmion/Rosary Band as well as to reveal the Homecoming Court election results. The massive fire, ignited by chairs and other materials thrown into a fire, burned for around 4 hours, lasting through all of the bonfire event itself. Although the bonfire seems to be the main spectacle of the event, the most enjoyable activities come from bonding with friends near and far or buying a hotdog or a burger. The bonfire may seem like an event for teenagers, but the Marmion Bonfire is a perfect activity for all to enjoy with friends and family. This year, Marmion had a gaming truck as well as numerous bouncy houses for the kids in attendance, with a volleyball tournament hosted by Marmion. “What are you girls excited for tonight?” - Gianna German and Rachel Soto, ‘24, Colorguard Members: “ I’m definitely excited to be able to see familiar faces outside of school and also be able to perform (at the Field Show) right before Homecoming to get rid of my nerves, also, it's going to be great to just have a fun night before another hectic Homecoming Week starts!”
“What do you like about the Bonfire? Also, what do you think the Bonfire could improve on last year?” Bella Williams, ‘24: “This year specifically, I like getting to hang out with friends and having it be on a Saturday night because we don't have to wake up early for school the next day. Next year, I for sure think they should add music next year and more age appropriate activities for the teenagers.” “Do you think that the Bonfire is a good precursor to Homecoming? Also, how was the food this year in your opinion?” Paloma Renteria, ‘24: “I feel like most people will enjoy it but personally I prefer the parade because I got to see the band perform. I think that it's good to have before Homecoming but they could definitely add some more fun activities next year. I thought that the food was great too, especially the hotdogs!” “How was the Fieldshow this year as a part of the Marmion/Rosary Band, and how could the band improve next year?” Sophia Cousins, ‘23: “So, this was my first time performing at the parade as a part of the band. I thought it was super fun and it was awesome to see the alumni cheering for us by the fence as well as waving. I thought it went really well and it was a great performance this year! I actually felt like we did pretty well, we worked a lot last week to get the final part of the show done and I felt like everyone did a great job considering we had never practiced on the field before!” AS THE FIRE CAME TO AN END and people began to slowly leave after a fun night hosted by Marmion, the annual tradition of the Marmion Bonfire will surely continue on next year in a celebration of Homecoming Week by hanging out with friends, eating some good food as well as watching a Fieldshow made possible by the Marmion and Rosary communities joining together to make things fun for all.
